First of all we'd like to thank all of our friends and family who have extended their best wishes and helped us during this difficult time!
We really appreciate all of you and this ordeal would be even harder without you.

If you're able, we hope you can find some time to send a card or fun photos to Kent during his stay downstate.
We'd like to keep him reminded of how much we care about and miss him. Plus, his room needs some decorating!
The address is:

Kent Spencer C/O The Northeast Center for Special Care

Now a little background into the timeline of events...

Kent was taken to University Hospital in Syracuse around midnight on Saturday, August 2nd, 2008 after a serious motorcycle accident. He was moved out of the ICU on August 17th, and was then transferred to Sunnyview in Schenectady for a coma stimulation program in September. He scored high enough on cognition tests in very late October 2008 to be declared out of the coma, but still in need of rehabilitation.

Kent was moved home during the holiday season of 2008, and he continued to improve with the help of in-home services such as PT and OT. He began spending more and more of the day up and moving around, holding conversations with friends, and regaining skills you and I take for granted. His balance had gotten better, and he's able to walk with one person assisting and a cane. He gained a stronger appetite, helping with his strength. However, as PT and OT discontinued visits to the home, Kent began regressing a bit. He began sleeping more, lost a bit of his appetite, and just generally stopped improving.

So, as of Monday, Feb 22nd, 2010, he was moved to the Northeast Center for Special Care in Lake Katrine (near Kingston) in New York. This is the largest TBI rehabilitation program in the world, and will hopefully move Kent back in the right direction. His stay will be up to 18 months, and while this will be difficult for us, we feel it is the best treatment option for him. After all, the Kent we all know, love, and miss would not be content sleeping 20 to 22 hours a day!

Recently (April 2010), Kent had an accident while in the rehabilitation center that left him with a broken hip. He went in for immediate surgery, and had a partial replacement. He has been healing nicely from this setback, and we hope it won't hinder him too much.

Of course, the shop is still open. Feel free to contact us!
